The Chippewa usually wore either buckskin or clothing made from buffalo skin, with outer layers of fur in the colder months. Men wore breechcloth , but both men and women wore leggings. The women also wore distinctive moccasins with puffed seams and colored with red , yellow, blue and green dyes. Men wore long hair that was braided in times of peace and something in a scalplock during wars.
